Biography
Brazo is a contemporary Italian painter. He was fascinated by colors from an early age, and he learned to express himself via painting and created his first works on canvas. To improve his skill, he went to artists' studios and began to copy the great Expressionist masters' works, learning the use of colors and the spontaneity of painting until he established his own approach based on both sign and color.
His research eventually led him to embrace the styles of street art and art brut, discovering in them a ground where he could convey feelings through the use of colors and signs that always drew him in. He represents thoughts and patterns in our culture using expressive brushstrokes, vibrant colors, scribbled text, and twisted shapes.
Artist’s experimental approach blends neo expressionism, street art and pop art into a unique voice, which has become his signature style. His painting re-creates the world as he wishes it to be, a type of witchcraft to reconcile with it and cling to an universe where reality and desire are never seen as antagonistic but as a constant union. A universe where there are no academic rules, only instinct and creative freedom.

I was delighted to see Brazo's work on a number of levels. They are well designed, intriguingly colored, innovatively primitive with a good balance of the raw and the complex. Brazo creates images with thought I can easily imagine "living with", an ability to remain thought provoking and yet ornamental over prolonged exposure.
These works also well straddle the invisible divide between "cartoon and not cartoon" that has presented such a quandary to art appreciators for a thousand years, but particularly since print and film have given cartooning an end unto itself.
Cartooning has been a critical element in representational art since its beginning and probably a folk art for as long. Most representational artists have understood its importance and that predecessors like Davinci and Ingres were in essence cartoonists engaged in more extensive shading and coloring. It is in primitivism and modernism that we see the main challenges to cartooning as the essence of what art is. Vast numbers of our peers have experimented in bridging these two alternatives, "painting as painting" and "painting as non-verbal language." In Brazo's work, I see an achievement of that sort of balance and recommend these works on that basis.
