Born in Argentina, Bibiana Ulanosky has been immersed in creative expression since early childhood. Alongside her long-standing career as an architect with her own practice, she has developed a rich and deeply introspective body of work in painting and drawing.
Her artistic inquiry centers on femininity and identity. In series such as She, Venus, Woman, and Nymphs, Ulanosky explores the complexities of female sexual identity—merging figuration and abstraction to evoke strength, vulnerability, and transformation.
Her landscapes, vivid in color and rhythm, consistently revolve around the motif of the path—not just as a visual element but as a metaphor for emotional and existential movement. These works exist in a state of flux, suggesting temporality, memory, and personal narrative.
Ulanosky’s expressive power is evident in the confident line of her drawings and the gestural force of her brushwork. As art critic Mario Kohan has observed, her images seem to radiate from the canvas with an inner light, charged with emotional and spiritual intensity.
Despite a lifetime of uninterrupted creation, Ulanosky has intentionally placed art-making above self-promotion. Only in recent years has she begun to actively share her work—offering collectors and curators a unique, mature voice within the contemporary art scene.
Bibiana Ulanosky began her artistic journey in Buenos Aires, studying at the Vázquez Málaga School of Ceramics (1963–1968), where she excelled in clay modeling and enamel techniques. Her early work was exhibited in several group shows, including at the Wildenstein Art Gallery in 1966/67.
While completing her Architecture degree at the University of Buenos Aires (1968–1975), she studied sculpture and life drawing with renowned sculptor Leo Vinci, gaining early recognition through exhibitions and televised interviews as a promising young artist.
Since relocating to Madrid in 1976, she has combined architectural practice with a consistent artistic career. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, she exhibited at institutions such as Caja Madrid and the Architects' Association of Madrid. In 1986–87, she was selected to join professional painting workshops at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, led by Antonio Saura, Pablo Palazuelo, and Albert Ràfols-Casamada. Her acceptance into these programs—despite a background in sculpture—highlighted the originality and strength of her artistic vision.
Her work has been shown in cultural spaces and municipal galleries across Spain. Since the 1990s, she has focused primarily on painting and drawing, alongside her independent architecture practice.
In recent years, she exhibited at Galería Azur in Madrid (2022), selling two of the three works presented, and in 2024 she participated in a curated group show with a professional artists’ collective, reinforcing her active role in the contemporary Spanish art scene.
