Antonis Politis

He was born in Athens in 1979. He studied painting from 1999 to 2005 in the Athens School of Fine Arts with professor Yannis Psychopedis. At the same time he studied the laboratory of sculpture of professor Nikos Tranos and studies up to today the laboratory of marble technique of professor Nikos Paraskeyas.

Painting People

There are a lot of ways to draw a portrait. But there are only two basic. First, using your observation and second using your imagination. The second puts you in a more free way to think. That's why I am using my imagination when I paint, but never stop to observe the whole project.

So, having in mind a foggy face I start drawing. My forms are filled with various colours but always with a limited mixture. If it's need, I may draw the proper clothing and the surrounding area.

The characteristics of these faces, are descriptive and stressed. The forms are put in a proper geometrical way, inspired from the african masks of Picasso and the murals of Egyptians. Egyptians drew faces with the more characteristic side of themselves. So, I try to do something like that. I want my themes to be as expressive as possible, so you can understand how a person feels and thinks in my drawing.

Also, I have observed faces from prisoners who have one number each and there are parallel and horizontal lines on the walls. Sometimes, I do the same thing in order to express people who are prisoners to me, in some way.

Except faces, I pay attention to some spaces and landscapes in my paintings, which are drawn with frugal depictions and materials, bright colours and description in any way. These interior places, often remind me prison cells with a few windows, dark maybe purple lighting. Always, they're big. Each time I work in an interior place, I imagine Rustins paintings.

My art is always under revision! My distress is not to loose my curiosity for finishing my continuous searching.
