Anita Burnaz

My Art is figurative, invoked by a memory, impression, observation, or sudden insight into human character. I am inspired by the beauty I see in a subject: its physical reality, underlying nature, and context.

Though I want to remain realistic in my work, I believe in manipulating the figure and the composition, to create ambuguities that enhance visual beauty, emotional impact, and intellectual stimulation.

I compose carefully, work thoughtfully with line and color, yet, I keep my painting free and instinctive, as in a quick sketch. This leaves room for the subconscious, of myself and the viewer, allowing the painting a certain incomplete, fragmentary feel, as in a chase after a fleeting idea, or a moment in human life.

I was born in Riga. I live in Germany and work as a full-time artist.
