Alistair M. Stiegmann
Creative Director · Art Director · Brand Strategist · Visual Artist
Alistair M. Stiegmann is an independent art director and creative visionary whose career spans over two decades across design, technology, and visual art. Born to Korean and German parents and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Alistair's multicultural heritage and coastal upbringing are central to the personal narratives embedded in his work. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
Before fully transitioning into creative direction and visual strategy, Alistair worked at Manex Visual Effects (MVFX)—and its interactive division—the company behind the groundbreaking visual effects for The Matrix. This early immersion into the intersection of technology and visual storytelling would shape his design philosophy and inform his artistic voice.
He launched his design studio, SUBTRACT, in San Francisco following the 2001 dot-com collapse, turning instability into opportunity and laying the foundation for a career built on resilience, innovation, and aesthetic clarity. His creative journey has taken him from Silicon Valley to the South of France, collaborating with clients like Oceanco Yachts and regional industries in Nice. These global influences continue to shape his nuanced visual language and cross-disciplinary approach.
Currently, Alistair serves as Creative Director at Vero Labs, Inc., where he leads the brand and product design for VERO™ – True Social, a platform dedicated to authentic digital connection. His portfolio includes work with Ojingo Labs, Inc., on projects for TED, Google Earth, Hasbro, Warner Bros., and Project Kaisei. Throughout, his work is defined by thoughtful storytelling, visual precision, and a drive to create meaningfully engaged experiences.
As a visual artist, Alistair explores themes of memory, speed, identity, and cultural symbolism through mixed media, photography, and conceptual installation.
