Born and raised in Harlem, NYC, I was exposed to art as a toddler and loved drawing and imagining. I didn't have many opportunities to cultivate my talent as a child in regular public school as there were no programs available. NYC is home to countless museums and galleries, and I went to as many as I could, gathering information and learning about art in general. By 1995, after attending and dropping out of two art schools, I tried to get serious about my art. I created 32 pieces and buried them in the back of the closet out of frustration, depression, lack of networking, and discouragement overall. I worked as a barista on Wall St. for 2 years, produced a solo show in 2004, sold 2 pieces, and continued to struggle until I moved to North Carolina in 2007. Now, 17 years later, in 2024, and decades older, I have discovered a budding art community here in High Point. I am currently a part-timing instructor at The Art Gallery (TAG) at Cogdon Yards and the ABC Cohort at the High Point Arts Council. I'm still waiting for my big break to have my work seen, collected, and appreciated.
