To work with recycled plastic materials have been in my interest for a long time. It always makes me wonder how art has changed since humanity started to use plastic. Nowdays it is very well presented in museums how much art changed through time and history.
It is not too long ago since we have the chance to use recycle plastic which was impossible when the prodcution of plastic was in its first round. Scientists say, in average plastic wont even degrade in 500 years. Beside this thought is quite shocking, it also makes me think about what will happen to art in the future?
I personally appreciate the effort taht TerraCycle is doing for the environment and economy, so I chose the idea of using their logo as the topic of the artwork for the competition of Hybridart Menagement and TerraCycle. My plan was to fill the huge surface with colorful, broken Bic pen pieces (provided by TerraCycle) placed next to each other, and highlighted the green logo of TerraCycle in the middle.
I stretched a metallic web to a frame, and then I fixed (stitched) the plastic pieces to it very close to each other. The work required about a 1000 pieces of pens.
