Là où les paysages havrais trouvent leurs références dans la peinture des grands impressionnistes normands, mes natures mortes trouvent un écho dans l'art des deux grands peintres de nature morte français : Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin et Paul Cézanne. La présence des fruits rouges, dont la couleur vient contraster avec la dominante couleur bleue de la vaisselle et du torchon, est un souvenir de la production de Cézanne. Le velouté de la matière du tissu est plus, quant à lui, un souvenir de la touche de Chardin.
Enfin, le reflet subtilement apparent sur la cruche bleue est un jeu de lumière qui oriente le regard du spectateur et l'invite à méditer sur la réelle intention de la nature morte, symbole de la finitude du monde, que la présence de la chenille souligne.
