I draw a picture of a plane tree with the use of a matchstick on the body of an allergic person. His skin gradually goes red on the body parts on contact with the matchstick to finally turn bright red, and then starts to ease after three hours to, at last, disappear. I have used about nine minutes of video film to record the whole stages.
Then, I have filmed the same process on a “normal” person, born in France, in order to notice the difference.
The allergic person was born in China, had been living in China until the age of eleven, and then moved to France fourteen years ago. He became allergic a few years after arriving in France. Under the effects of a pressure, his skin turns red : according to the doctors, the allergy is due to changes in the living conditions (food, habitat, water…) This does not happen to every person and symptoms may vary from one individual to another : it is allergy.
I draw a plane tree because Chinese people call them “French plane tree” and most of them think those trees come from France. Actually, plane trees are Chinese and are mass exported abroad, mainly in France, and people call them “French plane tree”. They do not care about their real origins.

Then, I got in touch with student from different countries asking them to draw a picture of their choice, which suits the culture of their native country, on the skin of an allergic person.
