Also known as the Apocalypse (from the Greek. ακολαύπσις — "opening", "revelation"). The Apocalypse was written by John the Theologian on the island of Patmos after a vision in exile in 90 of the 1st century. (a number of scholars date the book to 1969). Foretelling the end of the world, the second coming of Christ and the thousand-year reign of God after the Last Judgment, the Apocalypse contains a mysterious picture of the future fate of the Church of Christ and the whole world, and it is the only book in the entire New Testament - which, together with the prophetic books of the Old Testament - can be the genre can be completely attributed to the so-called "prophetic literature".
