Roger Drouin, a contemporary French sculptor, is driven by a relentless pursuit of "the major trait" in his creations - that single stroke capable of evoking movement, dynamics, or grace, holding the viewer's gaze and kindling interest. His journey as an artist is marked by a self-taught approach, having been recognized early on for his talents in drawing. Drouin debuted as an exhibitor in Toulouse in 1978, laying the foundation for a prolific artistic career.
In the transformative period of 2011/2012, Drouin came to the realization that "the major feature" bestows elegance, interest, and originality upon his work. This revelation led him to focus on crafting his subjects in a single stroke, giving rise to the "Essentials," where the cutting chip becomes the material for the associated "Silhouette."
Since this artistic epiphany, Drouin has produced approximately fifty works, with a select few classified as "unique pieces" and the majority as "original pieces" (X8). The latter are categorized into three series based on size: "office" (25 cm for standing subjects); "garden" (70 cm); and "monumental" (between 1.50 m and 2.50 m).
Within each series, Drouin explores a diverse range of patinas, characterized by vibrant and varied colors. Notably, each piece within a series is a unique creation, with at most a twin or triplet, never exceeding these limited editions.
