The dark bentwood furniture, the monochromatically tiled floor and the waitress in black are fairly typical of the style of coffee shop that aspires to a classical look and a degree of poshness, such as this one which is based on an establishment in Bridport Street, in the inner Melbourne suburb of Albert Park. It is after dark when many of these places close for the night and lose the agreeable ambience of people relaxing with a drink in a public place.

The first iteration of this image was far too brightly lit and rendered in a wide angle mode that took in a greater portion of the room but was adjusted to more muted lighting levels and closer cropping the day before being sent to the printer. The result is an concentrated clustering of dark tones in the top half of the composition, pleasingly kinetic shadows cast by the furniture and an emphised play of the white balls of reflected lights in the glass. The waitress was made larger even though she is out of scale relative to the furniture and the visual anomaly of her incorrect reflection was left to stand.
