This monumental painting, hence the title, presents a portrait of a Rose seen in profile. Painting it was a sport! I walked on the canvas from one end to the other of the realization.
The particular surface effect is due to the technique used. The canvas was previously pleated to draw the edges of the petals. It was on the ground and the coloring was done with a mop, thus producing a strong sensation of power.
This painting has been presented in solo exhibitions in Chaudes-Aigues, 2008, and Bar-le-Duc, 2011, both in France, as well as in other places, Arles, France, 2004, Blois, Annonay, 2006, Bagatelle, Paris, ...

Raphaëlle Pia is a nature painter.
At the age of 20, she came to Paris to study at the University of Plastic Arts and at the Beaux-arts and she discovered painting. While teaching, she never stopped painting. Fascinated by this culturally rich city, she settled there permanently.
Today she occupies a painter’s studio overlooking a natural garden next to the Paris Père Lachaise cemetery, which satisfies her taste for nature. Through the windows, she sees the seasons go by and sometimes she tries to transmit what she observes as in the series of SPRINGS.
The subjects of her paintings are often captured in the countryside or forests. But they are presented and painted differently, combining figuration, abstraction and strange surface effects, far from the usual models.
Surprising the viewer's eye and opening the door to new sensory possibilities is the basis of her work.
