The shapes of the flowers are suggested, without seeking a botanical description.
We see red and pinkish-white spots that one could take for well-bloomed poppies.
There are also smaller blue spots, as well as yellow spots. Also green that is lighter in tone than the background which is spread out with a palette knife.
This allows the viewer to "see" stems and leaves, without being able to tell which variety it belongs to.
