ARTIST STATEMENT

IRINA POZHARITSKAYA

I am Bugarian based ceramics artist. I hold a degree from Omsk State University. My passion for ceramics I followed in Russia and Bulgaria. My work has been presented in numerous international and national exhibitions, festivals, symposiums and residencies. I was nominated at the National Biennial of Sculpture in Bulgaria in 2020. Currently, my work is in private and state collections in Europe and the USA, thanks to its unique artistic qualities and techniques. My practice endeavours in the endless possibilities of ceramics, from contemporary techniques in relief panels, sculptures and installations to ancient techniques such as: raku firing, wood firing, fire sculpture, hand modeling, and wheel throwing. I find joy in painting and drawing. Every work I create carries a carefully chosen message and meaning.

My favorite raku firing technique allows to create unique works with incredible shapes and color nuances, and it always gives an element of surprise and improvisation.
