Saarbruecken, Germany
Artist (Drawing, Painting)
Born unknown date

Piyanut Wilhelmy was born in the early ‘70s in Bangkok/Thailand and moved to Saarbruecken/Germany with her parents when she was still a little child.

Being the only child of her German father Arthur Wilhelmy and her Thai mother Mrs. Somjintana Wilhelmy, her relationship to her parents was very intense and harmonious.

Piya (so she was called by everyone) loved to draw and paint since she was a little girl. German Artists like Franz Marc and August Macke did influence her very much and in many works like “the fox” or “horses”, their influence and the love for vibrant colors can be noticed.

The artist did receive a good school education in Germany as listed in her short biography below but she did not have much time to continue with her artworks at that time.

A big changement happened in her life when her parents decided to move back to Thailand in 2000 and wanted her to accompany them. This was a very hard decision for Piya as she was raised in Germany, she had her friends and education there, but the love and devotion she had for her parents led her to move back with them, which ended in an emotional disaster in the beginning. Starting a new life at zero with the age of 30 in a foreign country wasn’t easy, especially when the mentalities and cultures are so different. Due to her studies in the field of “Photoengineering and Mediatechnology”, she started to work at Grammy Thailand, Co.Ltd in the Postproduction department but finally had to change her employment because she felt unhappy and not accepted by her Thai colleagues. After a while she started to work at the German Embassy Bangkok and felt happier there although her job was not in a related field to her studies.

As her father died of a heart attack a few years later after they moved back to Bangkok, Piya’s life went upside down furthermore because her mother became mentally instable and depressed due to the loss of her husband. Facing the fact that her mother was not much of any help, she had to take over the role and responsibilities of her father in the household.

Her life reached its climax when her mother passed away due to stomach cancer in 2009. Piya was very devoted to her mother and their relationship was so close and intense that this loss really had a huge impact on her. But the artist did not want to fall into depressions and tried to help herself by starting with what she loved very much since she was a little girl – doing ART.

Ever since Piya did spend much time with drawings, paintings and sculptures which helped the artist through her losses. Her strong emotions are very evident in her artworks.
