----------
All images in this series were taken as part of a reportage for which I was granted unrestricted access.
Here, for the first time, individual photos are offered as prints.
Founded in 1964 Safari Varieté offered not only striptease shows but also live sex acts on stage. The sex shows resembled stage plays with weird plots inevitably leading to a live sex act on stage somtimes performed by a whole bunch of actors at once. It was not uncommon even that brave spectators from the audience would join the stage action.
There where separate rooms where actors could be met by guests after the show for private entertainment sessions.
My time at this venue gave me insights into a hidden world full of hardship, sadness and despair with little hope left for the people living there.
The theatre closed its doors for good in 2014.

Paul began expressing himself through photography very early in life, but chose not to pursue a career as a photographer. He became a professional pilot, always carrying a camera whenever possible.
When his years as a pilot ended, he had more time for art, and Paul's attention shifted again to photography.
His artistic work is characterized by his humanist thinking and pays homage to the complexity of the human condition.
With this approach to his subjects, Paul Alba leaves space for his subject, the viewer and himself in each of his photos.
Paul Alba photographs both digitally and on film, using both mediums to express his artistic vision and capture the multiple facets of the reality he explores.
