Neterova Natalya
Marine artist, watercolorist.
The sea, especially during a storm, is for me an endless source of inspiration. Sometimes it seems to me that the sea is alive: sometimes calm and peaceful, sometimes joyfully agitated, sometimes beautifully menacing. A storm is like the heart of the sea, the waves crashing like its heartbeat, and the wind blowing like a breath, sweeping off caps of white foam.
The power of nature enchanted me immediately and became an integral part of my plots. In it, I feel true life, a reflection of the strength, harmony, and greatness of the Creator.
One can paint hundreds or even thousands of storms, each unique in its moment, nature, and state. But calm seas, as a symbol of respite and tranquility, are no less interesting. When I paint a marine scene, we come to an agreement each time - the elements, and the watercolor. Sometimes it turns out especially well, and especially in large formats, the painting seems to come alive.
Lately, my artistic style has been expressed in a limited color palette (mostly watercolors painted with 3-5 colors), and in 2022, I completely abandoned any white paints, all the whiteness of waves and foam is pure paper. Lengthy searches for maximum impact of presence and empathy led to large formats - the main works are sized 56x76 cm. I started working on meter sheets 66x102 cm - I feel that this large and elongated format will better convey the state of the elements, although it is quite challenging in terms of technique.
