L'expérience d'être à la fois modèle (sentir la tension ou le relâchement dans différentes partie de ma main) et dessinatrice a renforcé ma conviction que le dessin est une expérience autant tactile et kinesthésique que visuelle.
Marie-Pascale Corcuff, born in 1956, lives and works in France where she devotes herself to a unique artistic practice that highlights paper and pencil. Using a diverse range of tools, such as calibrated leads, lead pencils and colored pencils, his works are distinguished by a careful attention to textures rather than simple graphics.
His learning of engraving, including techniques such as intaglio, drypoint and mezzotint, profoundly influenced his approach to drawing. For Corcuff, pencil on paper is not limited to drawing lines, but rather to creating superpositions and inlays, thus giving a tactile depth to his works. This method evokes more of a sensory experience than a simple visual rendering.
In her hand studies, for example, Marie-Pascale strives to capture the folds, wrinkles and different textures of the skin. She thus explores a dimension where the model and the artist meet, each tension or relaxation of her left hand translating into precise nuances in the drawing made with her right hand.
His technique often consists of using two colored pencils with initially incompatible shades. By mixing them, she observes and controls the chromatic conflict to finally bring out light. With the black pencil, she draws clouds which, although cloud-like, reflect similar processes of formation where particles clump together to create complex and subtle patterns.
Marie-Pascale Corcuff's works are thus a continuous exploration of textures and sensations, where each pencil stroke is an intimate and tactile experience, creating drawings that go well beyond the visual to touch the viewer in an almost palpable dimension. .
