We mainly see men there, migrants from Afghanistan, Somalia or other countries. The makeshift fire around which a few men gathered made me think of the Exodus in the Bible, and it seemed to me that history was repeating itself over and over again. Furthermore, this scene represents, like the following two, the contradictions of our current society, humanity, and inhumanity.

Marie-Luce Colatrella is a contemporary French painter. Born with an innate passion for visual expression, Colatrella embarked on her artistic odyssey during adolescence, where she immersed herself in the intricate world of drawing and painting. Her academic pursuits reflected her multifaceted interests. Following the completion of her baccalaureate in plastic arts, Colatrella chose a dual path, delving into the world of literature while simultaneously undertaking an apprenticeship in the delicate craft of art restoration. Under the guidance of the esteemed José Ostria, she honed her skills and deepened her understanding of the intricacies involved in preserving and revitalizing works of art.
Impressed by Colatrella's dedication and talent, José Ostria extended an invitation for her to join his painting studio as a student. This pivotal moment marked a significant juncture in her artistic development, providing her with a nurturing environment to further explore and refine her unique artistic voice.
Colatrella's oeuvre primarily revolves around the timeless art of portraiture, a testament to her tireless commitment to capturing the essence and intricacies of her subjects. Her classmates have become the focal point of her creative exploration, and through her brushstrokes, she breathes life into their visages, creating captivating and evocative portraits.
Her artistic portfolio expands further with her latest series of paintings, a triptych created in 2020, which showcases her versatility and thematic range. This collection is centered around photographs by Corentin Fohlen, offering a contemporary lens through which Colatrella interprets her subjects. Additionally, her exploration of ironwork and 18th-century architecture, specifically drawing from the cloister of the Abbey of Saint-Denis - now the House of Education of the Legion of Honor - adds historical depth and architectural elegance to her body of work.
