Lors de mon voyage en Amérique latine, j'ai eu la chance de faire une halte dans la réserve naturelle de Cotacachi-Cayapas située en Equateur à 3246 m d'altitude.
Là, sur la caldeira, face au volcan Cotacachi (magnifique géant qui culmine à quasiment 5000 m), j'ai été éblouie par le paysage qui s'offrait à mes yeux, j'en ai été émue aux larmes. C'est alors qu'une foule d'émotions contradictoires se sont emparées de moi. A la joie, la gratitude d'être là, d'avoir la chance d'admirer tant de beauté, se sont mêlées la tristesse, la colère, la culpabilité aussi : Mère Nature dans toute sa splendeur, frappant mon coeur de plein fouet, me demandait des comptes. Magali Angot is a contemporary French painter. She discovered the enchanting world of art at a young age through a children's workshop in Toulon. Her artistic journey continued through the Faculty of Plastic Arts in Aix-en-Provence and further flourished as she immersed herself in a three-year program at the École Supérieure d'Arts de Toulon.

A transformative trip to Latin America in 2019, where she met Amazonian shamans, became a pivotal moment reconnecting Magali with her profound nature and the compelling urge to paint. Inspired by the captivating gaze and the wealth of emotions it conveys, she naturally gravitated towards portraiture, predominantly focusing on the female form.

Magali initially experimented with acrylic paint, exploring its versatile possibilities. However, as her artistic prowess evolved, and her inclination towards realism and larger formats deepened, she found her true artistic home in oil painting. The slower drying times inherent in oil painting allowed her to refine her techniques, particularly in mastering the interplay of shadows and lights and capturing the essence of her subjects. Magali's pursuit of perfection occasionally results in works that approach photographic precision, although it is not her primary goal.

In her current artistic phase, Magali Angot strives for greater expressiveness by liberating her gestures, skillfully navigating the delicate balance between expressionism and realism. Guided by the principles of eco-feminism and drawing inspiration from female archetypes, her work delves into the inherent power of femininity—construed as potentiality. Amazons, witches, and goddesses emerge as powerful symbols raising contemporary inquiries into identity, gender, freedom, and femininity.

Magali believes that across the globe, women are progressively breaking free from patriarchal and religious constraints. Female archetypes serve as sturdy foundations for identity, providing a framework for individuals to connect with. Through her art, Magali aims to bring these archetypes closer to contemporary society, offering a fresh interpretation that resonates with current challenges, including those related to climate and social issues.
