Paolo Contin lives in the Province of Padua, where he currently has his art studio.

He trained in the world of design and has been working in the fashion field since 1980. Over the years he also cultivates his passion for art and begins to experiment with acrylic painting and installations with different materials, in particular with wood. From 1999 he begins to exhibit his works; in 2002 his first solo show in Padua, which was followed by many exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including in Copenhagen, Munich, Brussels, Istanbul, Buenos Aires and Sydney.

His artistic career opens with the oil and acrylic palette knife technique on canvas, with a research linked to abstract art and compositions built from geometric shapes and characterized by intense colors, a decisive chromatism that comes from his experience in design for fashion. The first works are crossed by elliptical shapes to represent the birth and the encounters of different worlds. Then different geometric shapes appear, which on the one hand intersect with strong contrasts and on the other overlap in a harmonious and orderly whole, in a desire to represent the founding and immutable elements of our universe. The favorite shapes become the triangles, because they represent life in its order but at the same time in its infinite variety, just as the forms they can take are infinite.

Over time, Paolo Contin feels the need to seek an expressiveness that he defines as “less aggressive” and so the geometric shapes are fragmented, the colors lose their defined boundaries and the painting acquires many evanescent shades. It is a more intimate research that highlights the feelings and emotions, which tells the complexity and richness of our existence in the shades of color and in the signs that run through the backgrounds.

The artist also experiments with an original artistic technique, which combines painting and sculpture. Triangular fragments of wood are glued in several layers on a wooden base and create, with their contrasts, small worlds in which the observer can find the creative energy and compositional harmony enclosed together. Some works are monochromatic with bold blacks and reds, others have different shades of wood, others are dotted with pieces that shine with primary and secondary colors in contrast with the gray background, to recall the singularity of individuals and the union in a unique living space.
