That year, the hollyhock plants launched arabesques.
The end of the season was near, the flowering rare. These are the stems that choreographed the space, in a very loose writing. The graphic design of the garden space embracing by the curve of their long stems inspired this painting and a whole series of black and white drawings with graphite lead.
Pastes and transparencies, the genesis of the painting, when the canvas becomes a painting, all the alchemy of the painter's gesture.
