In my reworking, the word defacement has been slightly changed to spell, debasement. The main imagery has reversed the aggressors who were two police officers with batons. These have been assumed by Robertson's gollys. The victim now is the police officer.
The context to understand this piece lies in the cultural Marxist attack on the west. The 'new proletariat' (those who were formerly oppressed by the bourgeoisie) have taken to undermining western society. The result is debasement (a lowering in character and quality) and the 'death of free speech'.

Jonathan's art commonly employs multi layered imagery within the composition. The artist uses text, often drawn onto and defacing the depicted image. Imaginative play is a significant component of the work, he was influenced by Picasso's technique of "unlearning", emulating childlike drawings. The theme is typically characterized by this sense of unlearning and rejecting the coercion and conformity within popular culture.
