Jean-Pierre Duquaire is a multi-talented artist, both a painter and photographer, whose passion for art was deeply influenced by his father, an artisan lacquerer and decorator. He grew up watching his father work with care and precision, which fueled his own creativity.
The Faubourg Saint Antoine district of Paris, where his father practiced his trade, was imbued with an artistic atmosphere, with many talented artists and craftsmen. It was there that Jean-Pierre was introduced to the art of lacquer and furniture decoration. In the 1965s, he helped create finishes on Chinese-style furniture, making pieces such as Louis XV-style chests of drawers, coffee tables, nesting tables and screens. They made their own paints from powders of various colors, linseed oil, turpentine and siccative. Engravings in primers, such as coromandel and cshanzy patterns, were an integral part of their work.
In the 1990s, Jean-Pierre began exploring oil painting on canvas, drawing inspiration from 19th and 20th century impressionist painters, of whom Cézanne and Van Gogh were among his favorites. In 1995, he exhibited for the first time in Tours.
Over time, he preferred acrylic for his works. He particularly appreciates this technique for several reasons: it does not emit an odor, offers a beautiful range of colors, allows you to play with the transparency and density of the pigments, and dries quickly. Above all, he enjoys painting en plein air, capturing the light and shadows of landscapes under the sun. This experience reminded him that great artists like Nicolas de Staël, Georges Braque, Picasso, Matisse and others were inspired by nature and sunlight to create immortal works.
In 2016, Jean-Pierre Duquaire received the prestigious SILVER AWARD, recognition of his artistic talent. His artistic journey, which combines tradition and innovation, testifies to his unwavering passion for art and his determination to explore new artistic paths.
