Original oil painting by Irene Makarova. My works are in many collections around the world.

We all simultaneously live in two worlds - the outer one, which we share with other people, and the inner one. We touch the outer world through our inner world. Different people experience different feelings from the same things. Why does something that one man doesn't notice turn into pain for another one? What touches us and who and how do we touch? What is the outer world? Does it consist of overlapping inner worlds? Or is it completely separate, so that no one can ever fully know it? No one is able to live outside the inner world and is not free from the demands of the outer world.
We can touch the outer world with our hands, and it becomes tangible. What are the hands of our soul, what are the hands of our capabilities, what are the hands that guide us, stop us, or embrace us?

Oil

Paint consisting of pigments bound with linseed oil or carnations. The traditional technique consists of superimposing layers of paint increasingly rich in oil for a solid and durable hanger.

Surrealism

Founded in 1923 by the writer André Breton, it will unite many artists like Salvador Dali (1904-1989), Max Ernst, René Magritte (1898-1967), Victor Brauner (1903-1966). Influenced by psychoanalysis, they see psychic life as a new field for renewing the arts. They will develop new ways to create and use new materials.

Irina (Irene) Makarova was born in Moscow, Russia, and currently lives in London, UK.

Since 2005, she studied painting in the studio of the Russian artist Konstantin Kaufman. She graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute in 2008, and then she took an Art course at Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after Surikov. She joined the International Art Foundation in 2008. She prefers to work in oil and often uses open colours in her artwork.

Irina mostly creates expressive figurative art. The form and relationships between different forms and figures set a huge field of interpretation through different historical and mythological contexts. Irina's paintings are born in her inner world through observation and experience of the surrounding life.

Irina's art was influenced by the pictorial language of the Russian avant-garde of the early twentieth century and the work of German expressionists, as well as by Bosch, Giotto, El Greco, and Modigliani.

Irina has participated in more than 60 exhibitions in Russia and Europe. Her works are in private and public collections in England, Scotland, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, Finland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.
