This artwork consists of 10608 felt squares in the size of 15 mm x 15 mm x 3 mm. 102 lines with 104 "pixels" each, bound in darkness and in light, by wood glue on 6 seperate medium-density fibreboards. The frame is made with anodised aluminium profiles.

This artwork consists of 10608 felt squares in the size of 15 mm x 15 mm x 3 mm. 102 lines with 104 "pixels" each, bound in darkness and in light, by wood glue on 6 seperate medium-density fibreboards. The frame is made with anodised aluminium profiles.
It resembles its specimen pretty well, that can be found along many other dragons in the ninties advanced dungeons & dragons computer roleplaying game "Champions of Krynn".
If you grew up this type of games, made some cash in the silicon valley, as a wizard of the coast, or elsewhere, and got the coin, here you get the dragon.

I've been doing and experimenting with pixel art and different media (wood, felt balls, felt squares) for about ten years or more.
I am mainly inspired by old computer games, especially the 32 colored Amiga versions, and their pixelart. This includes games from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons goldbox series like "Champions of Krynn", where my red dragon, made from squares of felt, comes from, or the "Monkey Island" series as well as other Forgotten Realms themed games like "Eye of the Beholder".
Those type of games are capable of creating an image with rather few pixels and often note more than 32 colors or less, which makes them the perfect match for my kind of art.
