Hervé Hugues, a contemporary French painter, is driven by the profound desire to paint emotions, to create improbable shadows and lights, and to immerse himself fully in the realm of imagination. Born with both feet rooted in the Mediterranean, he spent his childhood exploring the underwater landscapes of the Calanques of Marseille, Cassis, and Corsica. While these underwater journeys introduced him to the silent world beneath the waves, they also exposed him to the vibrant colors and abundant life that thrived in the depths.
Even today, many years later, Hervé finds himself deeply connected to the emotions evoked by the sea. Despite the inexhaustible energy he finds in mountain landscapes, he inevitably returns to the waters that shaped his early experiences. Perhaps it is this enduring connection that imbues his paintings with a certain essence of the sea, a subtle reminder of the grains of sand that have left their mark on his artistic journey.
