Flavio Mendes Kiko, born in 1979, lives and works in France where he is distinguished by his abstract and minimalist drawings made with acrylic on paper. Inspired by Brazilian musicians, notably Chico Buarque, Flavio adopts a unique artistic approach, rejecting traditional influences which he considers to be the worst enemies of art.

His artistic approach is characterized by a certainty of gesture and the updating of psychographic intertwining, offering the viewer moments of benevolent inspiration. More than a non-academic artist, Flavio is part of a process of pure creation, freed from cultural accessories, like a necessary breathing which builds an autonomous creative consciousness.

On his site, two themes dominate his graphic works on paper: “cities” and “woman”. For Flavio, these themes represent home ports, essential anchors which allow him to navigate far from the conventional origins of his past as an engineer and mathematician.

Flavio Mendes Kiko submits to wandering with gratitude, offering himself to adventure with unshakeable confidence. This quest for freedom and spontaneity is, according to him, the very essence of the contemporary artist. Unlike adolescence, often perceived as a contrasting memory, for Flavio and many Brazilian artists, the question of its memorization has no meaning.

His work is a perpetual present of the hand that traces, the eye that anticipates and the brain that invites the soul to stack the scales of meaning. This eternal adolescence inducts the artist into a spiritual dimension, where each creation is an exploration of the infinite potential of the spirit.
