Painter, photographer and activist from Madagascar, Elsa Rakoto defines herself as a painter of the Afro diasporas. Afro-feminist and Pan-Africanist activist within different organizations, her social and historical art reflects her questions and the intellectual movements and collective struggles in which she is part.
Born in 1987 and self-taught, Elsa Rakoto grew up between the Lyon region and Reunion Island. It was only in 2020 that she began her career as a painter.
From hip hop, through social photography, illustration and painting, her artistic practice has evolved in correlation with her strong values that she injects into her imaginations. The valuation of community bonds and love, social justice, sorority, female emancipation as well as the Pan-African movement punctuate her work.
