My tribute to the Chinese folk tales of old. An elegant and delicate piece of work in pristine white colour. My tribute to the Chinese folk tales of old. An elegant and delicate piece of work in pristine white colour.

Just like with my Medieval monk, when I made him this figure too as a part of the series of sculptures in white, he looked a bit too serious in his ancient mysterious ways, so, again, I decided to give him a twist, a touch of lightness - hence the almost comic red dot on his nose.
That's at least my idea of this odd mandarin.

But, here comes the fun part: if you happen to like my sculptures, and eventually decide to buy them, you don't have to go with my story at all - instead you can invent a name for each of these figurines, or perhaps come up with a story of your own. (Or, you can just enjoy them.)

Just a short final note: this particular technique – ceramics - is completely unpredictable. So due to its nature, one can never tell the final result with certainty. In other words, you can’t, even if you'd want to, get two exactly same figures. Each one is totally unique.

So, if you feel you have someone unique in your life, someone who you think deserves a unique gift, this is your place.
That special someone might be you.

Elena Uljancic is a contemporary Croatian artist. She is a painter, ceramist, the director of the Poreč Museum and art lover. She has been taught by many great masters of the trade, Cristina Cordova, Efraim Rodriguez, Martin Lagares, and Andrew Joseph Keith.

Uljancic curiosity led her to find a new world hidden under a piece of clay. Her exploration into her own imagination and skills resulted in beautiful small sculptures. All her sculptures represent different elements of her inner world, some are enjoyable and pleasant to look at even at the first sight, others are more complex and darker.

Elena Uljancic was born in 1971, in Pula, Croatia.
