Genesis of Painting

Born of Spanish grandparents, winegrowers and market gardeners, in 1961 in Algeria, I spent my childhood in Gigean in the Hérault, in my father's carpentry, on the edge of the 113 which runs towards Mèze and the Thau pond.

In order to participate in the living model workshops at the Beaux Arts de Sète as a free listener, I learned before I was old enough to drive an orange motobecane, without a helmet. Dazzled, I criss-crossed the Gardiole and the hills of La Moure, (where there was one petrol lamp per village), and learned the curves of Haut Languedoc by heart. I evoke them in my painting, in the tearing of the sky which reveals the free canvas in the background of the Yellow Houses.
