This painting was done for a competition in honor of the bi-centennial of a Mauresque style bath house near my hometown in France (Le Mont-Dore).
I wanted to try and create an image that would carry similar emotions as 19th century painters, Symbolism and the mysterious and elegant eeriness of some of Jean Cocteau's black and white movies like Beauty and The Beast or Orpheus, while delivering it with a more fresh and contemporary approach.
The painting won the contest.
It was also selected among the finalists in the Art Renewal Center 2018 painting Salon, and is now in their yearly published catalog.

Christophe Vacher is a contemporary French artist. Since 1989, he has been involved in providing backgrounds and visual development for the Animation industry and Walt Disney Pictures. His artistic contributions encompassed painting backgrounds and conceptual artwork for renowned animated films including "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Runaway Brain," "Hercules," "Tarzan," "Fantasia 2000," "Dinosaur," and "Treasure Planet." In February 2002, he left the Disney studios to dedicate himself fully to creating personal artworks for galleries.

Vacher's visual style draws inspiration from esteemed art movements such as the Hudson River School, the Romantics, and the European Symbolists, known for their grandiose and theatrical landscapes. He characterizes his painting process as an unending quest for capturing the utmost splendor, spirituality, and improbable visions.
