Bartolomé Esteban Murillo was a famous Spanish painter of the 17th century, born on December 31, 1617 in Seville and died on April 3, 1682 in the same city.

Murillo is considered one of the greatest representatives of the Spanish school of Baroque painting. He began his artistic career working as an apprentice to Juan del Castillo, a local painter. Later he studied at the school of Francisco de Herrera the Elder, where he was influenced by the tenebrist style.

Murillo's style is characterized by a skilful use of light and color, as well as the realistic representation of religious subjects and scenes of daily life. His paintings were often imbued with a certain gentleness and a sense of spirituality.

Among Murillo's most famous works are his paintings of the Virgin Mary, often depicted with a humble and motherly. One of his best-known works is 'The Virgin and Child with Saint Rosalie', which shows the Virgin Mary tenderly holding the Christ Child.

Murillo was also renowned for his paintings of scenes from the life of the poor and street children of Seville. These paintings, such as "The Kids of the Shell" or "The Fruits of Summer", are imbued with compassion for the most disadvantaged social classes.
