Alban Luherne chooses to photograph places that are sometimes commonplace, sometimes hostile, in order to tell the world as he sees it; beauty in places perceived at first glance as bland, even ugly; the destruction in the images of major urban works; poetry in the “mass games” of North Korea; life stopped short in Chernobyl; the profusion in the accumulations.
From these images, he builds a work that questions us about our aesthetic values and allows us to find a form of beauty in the commonly uninteresting clichés. He explores the polysemy of each visual construction. In his often raw photos, rationality seems to have smothered passion; and questions us about globalization and its effects on places.
Seemingly simple compositions bring questions. Meaning is encapsulated in these arrangements. To miss none, Alban advocates technological neutrality. This rule allows him to build compositions that tell stories of modernity in several formats.
The abstraction of many of Alban's photos is an invitation to contemplation. The only state according to him which allows the elevation of sensitivity, spirit and intellect. Look to (re)feel, with each shot.
Alban Luherne was born in 1976 in Saintes (France), and lives in Paris. His work is present in many private collections.
