Construit à la fin du 19ème siècle, le pont Long Biên enjambe le fleuve Rouge. Il est très fréquenté par les piétons, les cyclistes et les motos. C’est un monument emblématique de la capitale vietnamienne.
C’est en 1898 que les travaux de construction du pont Long Biên débutent. Le chantier est pris en charge par la société Daydé & Pillé (et non Eiffel) à laquelle on doit notamment le Grand Palais et pont Mirabeau de Paris. Le pont est inauguré en 1902 par le gouverneur général de l’Indochine, Paul Doumer.

Permettant de relier Hanoï aux provinces du nord et à la Chine, l’édifice mesure 1 600 mètres de long et compte 19 travées constituées de poutres d’acier. Jusque dans les années 80, c’était le seul pont permettant de franchir le fleuv
