The oil painting "Sounds of Birds and Sea Waves" immerses the viewer in the serene and boundless beauty of the coastline, where the rhythm of nature unfolds in a harmonious symphony of wind, water, and life. The artist masterfully conveys the raw, untouched character of the seashore, where the land meets the ocean under a vast, cloudless sky. The painting presents a panoramic view of a rocky shore bathed in sunlight, stretching into the distance. The horizon line is subtle, seamlessly blending the deep blue of the sea with the sky, creating a sense of infinite space. The shoreline is adorned with scattered stones and boulders, their earthy tones contrasting with the cool, translucent water. The artist’s brushstrokes convey the textures of the rugged coastal terrain, from the rough surfaces of the rocks to the gentle movement of the waves washing over them. Two abandoned wooden boats rest on the shore, their weathered appearance hinting at a history of journeys once taken. Their green and brown hues blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings, suggesting they have long been part of this landscape. These boats, though still, evoke a sense of past activity—a fisherman returning from the sea, a quiet morning spent drifting along the waves. They symbolize both solitude and the human connection to the vastness of the ocean. The sea, with its dynamic movement, dominates the middle of the composition. The artist captures the delicate interplay of light and shadow on the water’s surface, portraying the shifting shades of blue and green that dance in the waves. The curling white foam of the waves, touched by sunlight, creates a luminous contrast against the darker tones of the sea, bringing the painting to life. The transparency of the water near the shore reveals smooth stones beneath, adding depth and clarity to the scene. Above the waves, a group of seagulls glides effortlessly through the sky, their wings spread wide as they ride the ocean breeze. Their presence brings movement and vitality to the painting, reinforcing the sense of nature’s perpetual motion. The artist’s depiction of the birds, with loose yet precise strokes, captures their elegance and freedom. The sky, painted in luminous blues with hints of soft clouds, stretches endlessly, embracing the entire scene. It reflects the calm yet powerful presence of the ocean, reinforcing the sense of peace that the painting conveys.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
