The painting "Village Life" offers a glimpse into the peaceful charm of rural living, capturing the harmony between human activity and nature. Executed in oil on cardboard, the artwork depicts a serene countryside scene with a tranquil river in the foreground and a rustic village nestled on a hill in the background. The composition exudes warmth and nostalgia, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the beauty of simplicity. The foreground features a calm river, its surface reflecting the sky and surrounding landscape with soft, rippling textures. Two small wooden boats rest at the water's edge, painted in muted tones of blue and brown. Their stillness adds to the tranquil atmosphere, suggesting a moment of quiet after the day's activities. The reflections in the water, rendered in fluid brushstrokes, create a dynamic interplay of light and color, enhancing the sense of realism. The middle ground is dominated by a sloping riverbank, painted in earthy hues of ochre, yellow, and brown. The artist skillfully captures the textures of the grassy and rocky terrain, suggesting the natural wear and movement of the land over time. A narrow dirt path winds up the hill, leading the viewer's eye toward the village above. In the background, the village is depicted with charming, rustic houses, their weathered facades painted in soft blues, reds, and browns. The thatched or tiled roofs and simple structures evoke a sense of timelessness and humility. The presence of a tall flagpole or utility pole adds a subtle human element, hinting at the village's everyday life and routines. Surrounding the houses are clusters of trees, painted in warm autumnal tones of green, yellow, and red, blending seamlessly with the overall palette. The sky is soft and muted, with pale beige and pastel tones suggesting the light of late afternoon or early evening. This subtle lighting bathes the scene in warmth, emphasizing the peaceful rhythm of village life.Through "Village Life," the artist conveys a deep appreciation for the beauty and simplicity of rural living. The painting captures a moment of quiet coexistence between people and their environment, highlighting the slower, more deliberate pace of life in the countryside. The gentle brushstrokes and harmonious color palette evoke feelings of nostalgia, serenity, and connection to nature. This work serves as a celebration of rural traditions and the enduring charm of villages that remain close to the land. The artist invites the viewer to reflect on the quiet joys and unassuming beauty that define life in such settings, offering a sense of peace and grounding amidst the complexities of modern life.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
