The painting "Sunny Winter Day" beautifully captures the warmth and vibrancy of a clear, sunlit winter scene. Painted in oil on cardboard, the artwork depicts a rural landscape blanketed in fresh snow, illuminated by the bright morning sun. The composition features a winding snow-covered road that cuts through the foreground and leads the viewer’s eye toward the horizon, where modest houses and bare trees dot the landscape. The road, marked by the tracks of a sled, adds a dynamic element to the otherwise serene environment. The brown and gray grooves contrast against the bright white and blue hues of the snow, creating a sense of movement and interaction between humans and nature. A horse-drawn sled, with its occupants bundled against the cold, moves along the path, adding life and storytelling to the scene. The surrounding landscape is framed by tall birch trees with their distinctive white bark and slender, graceful forms. The trees, painted with fine, expressive strokes, cast long blue shadows on the snow, emphasizing the crispness of the winter air and the low angle of the sun. Behind the birches, clusters of shrubs and small buildings in warm, muted tones create depth and a sense of community within the scene. The sky above is a vibrant azure, clear and bright, contrasting beautifully with the cool whites and blues of the snow-covered ground. The sunlight bathes the entire scene in a golden glow, softening the edges and creating a harmonious balance between light and shadow. The artist’s use of warm tones for the buildings and trees adds a sense of coziness to the otherwise cold environment.Through "Sunny Winter Day," the artist conveys the beauty and vitality of winter, focusing on the interplay of light and color to create a scene that feels both lively and serene. The painting captures a moment of rural life, where daily routines continue undisturbed by the cold. The presence of the sled and the tracks reminds the viewer of the connection between humans and their environment, and the resilience required to thrive in such conditions. This work celebrates the simple joys of winter—a sunny day, the crunch of snow underfoot, and the warmth of community amidst nature’s stillness. The artist’s use of vibrant colors and dynamic brushstrokes brings the scene to life, evoking feelings of nostalgia and appreciation for the quiet beauty of winter days. The painting invites the viewer to pause and reflect on the unique charm and tranquility that winter can offer.

Yuriy Suprunchuk is a Ukrainian painter, born on April 11, 1961, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. He received his formal art education at the Zheleznogorsk Art School (Russia), graduating in 1982, where he studied under V. Chukuev and E. Nikulin. In 2002, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
His artistic journey began in early childhood, when a moment of watching his mother paint sparked a deep fascination with art. Suprunchuk recalls how, as a small child, he once stayed up all night painting after being inspired by the scene of his mother working on a composition.
He later studied at the Kharkiv State Pedagogical Institute, where he not only refined his technical skills but also acquired deep theoretical knowledge and art teaching methodology. Under the mentorship of distinguished professors, he developed a strong foundation in both classical and contemporary Ukrainian art traditions. As a student and later as an educator himself, he placed a high emphasis on nurturing the individual talent and expression of his pupils.
Yurii Suprunchuk’s creative style blends realism with elements of romanticism and fantasy, often inspired by Ukrainian folklore, landscapes, and national cultural identity. His compositions are notable for their philosophical undercurrents and metaphysical dimensions. In his works, one can often find abstracted objects, symbolic figures, and stylized interpretations of natural forms.
His paintings are characterized by rhythmic compositions, balanced use of light, and expressive color schemes. He often explores existential themes and the metaphysical presence of the human spirit.
Suprunchuk’s creative approach is introspective and emotional, yet rooted in structured form. His works frequently portray female figures, domestic still lifes, Ukrainian village landscapes, and cultural archetypes. The recurrence of motifs like trees, fish, vessels, and abstract elements imbues his paintings with layered meaning, often inviting the viewer to contemplate deeper symbolic narratives.
In addition to his artistic practice, Yurii Suprunchuk has taught for many years, inspiring a new generation of artists in Zhytomyr. His students and colleagues recognize him not only for his exceptional talent, but also for his philosophical depth and dedication to the craft.
Today, his works are held in private collections and exhibitions, continuing to speak through color, form, and inner vision — a testament to the enduring power of Ukrainian painting.
