Lady with Obsidian (2023) Schilderij door Valentina Reina

This painting is a visual embodiment of elegant detachment, inner strength, and quiet introspection. The female figure, portrayed from behind, seems to turn away from the outside world, engaging only in a dialogue with herself. Her posture is graceful yet inaccessible; her hand relaxed, yet suggestive — as if releasing something, or maintaining control. [...]

The Symbolism of Obsidian
The use of natural obsidian is deliberate and meaningful. Historically, obsidian is associated with protection, transformation, and truth. It absorbs negativity and reveals hidden realities. Worn as an earring, it becomes a kind of talisman, shielding the ear — as if she chooses to listen only inwardly, filtering out the noise of the world.

Meaning
The painting speaks to the boundaries a woman sets between herself and the world — not out of fear, but out of dignity. It’s about how power can be silent. About the choice not to reveal the face — as an act of self-possession and authority.

This work conveys contained energy, maturity, and the art of being within oneself. In this context, obsidian deepens the emotional resonance: there is no aggression here, but a quiet, immovable strength.

This woman is not an object of the gaze — she is the subject of her own reality.

I am not an artist in the conventional sense.

I am a researcher of states,

an alchemist of matter,

an observer of how energy takes form.

Since early childhood, I’ve been watching

how everything moves, renews, and transforms.

The human body.

Consciousness. Habits. Beliefs.

Everything is subject to change.

And if everything is constantly changing—

where is the “I” in all of this?

My painting is a form of dialogue

with that which cannot be touched,

but can be felt.

I don’t paint objects.

I create energetic structures,

reflecting vibrations, collapses, resurrections, and inner processes.

It’s art through which

you may encounter a version of yourself

you’ve never met before.

At the core of my method lies

an attempt to capture the invisible—

inner mutations, archetypal impulses,

the pulsating nature of Life.

These works are not depictions.

They are portals.

They connect you

to a universal, ancient energy

we’ve lost touch with in the noise of everyday life.

I call it transformational painting.

These are initiation pieces.

Annihilation pieces.

They are not made to decorate.

They are here to penetrate, transform, liberate.
