Blank papers torn-patched up on canvas. Words (in French in the painting) such as taboos, the not-said, hearsay, family secrets, word demon, sorrow demon, too much sorrow, word-ache, a word too many, no more words… are thrown on this patchwork of material, handwritten again and again until saturation, scattered, pasted here and there according to the drawing, wrong side up, ride side up, superimposed with abandon, or isolated… lost… legible… building up relief, shadow and light appear naturally, painting crystallizes. Those words, distilled over the years, intrude, clasp, crush the thought before suffocating the word. One ends up muzzled by all these words that one could not say… remains the eyes as the only way of speech. I painted the eyes with acrylic. Final touch of this silent speech with pencils. Val d’Off puise son inspiration dans le graphisme des mots, leur symbolique ou leur sens propre, pour les décomposer, les recomposer, chercher leur face cachée et leur donner une nouvelle vie.
Val d’Off trempe son pinceau dans une palette de mots. Elle invente des tableaux à textes comme des chansons à textes. Papiers journaux, papiers livres, papiers manuscrits sont déchirés puis collés sur toile en support de créations. Le dessin, les écritures, les encres, crayons, couleurs et autres textures viennent en surimpression de ce patchwork de matières.
Les mots sont utilisés sous différentes formes :
- dactylographiés (travail sur marouflage de papiers journaux)
- fondus dans une image via supports numériques
- manuscrits (écrits ça et là au gré du dessin, épars ou collés, juxtaposés, à l’endroit, à l’envers, superposés jusqu’à l’excès…)
Val d’Off utilise les mots dans leur symbolique, personnelle et artistique. Elle nous conduit ainsi vers nos multitudes de mots, de morceaux de vécus, de fragments d’instants…
Donnez-lui des mots, elle en fera des tableaux.
Val d’Off draws her inspiration from the words’ graphics, their symbolic or their literal meaning, to decompose them, recompose them, search for their hidden side, giving them a new life.
Val d’Off dips her brush into a palette of words. She invents painting texts like song texts. News-papers, book-papers, manuscript-papers are torn, then glued onto canvas as a medium for her creations. The drawing, the writing, the inks, pencils, colors and other textures come as overprint on this patchwork of materials.
The words are used in different forms:
- typed (work on newspaper marouflages)
- melted in an image by way of digital mediums
- manuscripts (written here and there at the discretion of the drawing, scattered or glued, juxtaposed right way round, upside down, superimposed to excess…)
Val d’Off uses the symbolic significance of words, personal and artistic. She leads us this way toward our multitude of words, pieces of experience, fragments of a moment.
