I present to you my new collection of paintings on canvas entitled "wax me"
I declined it in different sizes (12.7 x 17.8 cm, 20.3 x 25.4 cm, 27.9 x 35.6 cm)
My “wax me” series is a snap. A return to basics. Fabric is the first medium that imposed itself on me during my first artistic practices.
This fabric, The wax, is at the genesis of my art (I painted directly on wax and not on paper or canvas). So in this series I use the wax to sublimate my major subject. That is to say the woman, nature, the observation of a femininity (without being a feminist).
it is certainly chosen for its colorful patterns but it is also a sign of social recognition and a real support for non-verbal communication. Each pattern has a meaning and by wearing it, we "talk" to others.
Indeed, the wax is not only the fabric of the garment, it is certainly chosen for its colorful patterns but it is also a sign of social recognition and a real support for non-verbal communication. Each pattern has a meaning and by wearing it, we "talk" to others.
Names are also given to the models:
- with the wax fabric called "okra leaf", the woman who wears it highlights the fact that she has saved a lot to afford it and that she is someone who makes an effort to get what she wants wanna.
- with "You go out, I go out", fabric on which we see a bird coming out of a nest and another ready to follow it, by wearing this model, the woman sends the message that she will be as fickle as her husband!
- with another classic which is the stuff "my husband is capable", the African woman shows that she is proud to have a caring and prosperous husband.
The Pathé'o stylist then dressed Nelson Mandela with his wax shirts when it was not yet "fashionable."
And for the record the wax is not of African origin.
It was the Ghanaian mercenaries who returned from Borneo and Sumatra after the conflict, brought home the typical fabric of Indonesia Batik and it is according to its manufacturing technique that it will be renamed wax (which means wax).
Ghana is followed by Ivory Coast and Senegal which set up manufacturing plants in their capitals to compete with Dutch wax.
