The following is an art piece and poem I wrote about our current society and inclinations of violence toward the 'other' we see in our society. Hopefully with better context the meaning and intent will be clear.

The Hanging Tree

Who shall we bring to the hanging tree?

Shall it be the traitor or the terrorist, the enemy, the subversive?
Shall it be the abortionist doctor or the pedophile priest, the greedy billionaire, the mass polluter?
Shall it be the crooked lawyer, or the enabling judge, the killer cop, the vigilante?
Shall it be the Sikh, or the Hindu, the Christian, the Muslim, the Jew?
Shall it be the Atheist or the Wicca, whatever shall we do?

Shall it be the immigrant seeking a better life, or the man who beats his wife?
Shall it be the politicians who lie, or the gunmakers who make us die?
Shall it be the drug dealer forced to sell, or the homeless living in hell?
Shall it be the pimp or maybe his ho, or the confused who simply don’t know?

Shall it be the newsman twisting the facts to sell the story?
Shall it be the lone shooter seeking out glory?
Shall it be the parent bullying another’s child?
Shall it be the partiers who went a bit too wild?

Shall it be bankers and executives living large?
Shall it be the political parties too long in charge?
Shall it be MAGA or Liberals on the extreme edges?
Shall it be all those around whom they create wedges?

Maybe it’s the Klan or Panthers you say?
Have we arrived at Judgment Day?
Shall we bring all the ‘other’ to the noose’s pull?
Will our hunger for ‘other’ death ever be full?
Who draws the line and makes the call?
How is it not death to us all?

Born in semi-rural Nevada in 1969, I moved to CA in 1980. I've been abused, homeless, addicted, infirmed, struck by an automobile, and I am still here. My challenges have been the roots of my blessings and I am grateful for my life experiences and the people in my life. My art is my expression of the core of my being at a moment in time. My art is as varied as my moods because it is genuinely me in the moment it is created. When you add in the issues of depression and loss of the last few years, there have been a wealth of lows upon which I have drawn. Conversely, there have been joys as well and those find expression as well in my art.

As I feel it is the duty of artists to bring good into the world a percentage of all print sales will be donated to charity. Causes supported: Ukraine Relief, LGBTQIA+ Support and Allyship, Suicide Prevention, Mental Health Awareness and Support, Homelessness Prevention and Support
