Sushma Legendre Mcintosh

Her regular stays in India and Japan, where she exploreds meditative art, led her gradually from the figurative to the abstract, always in the pursuit of a state of silence and immersion, proper suited more to the revelation more than creation. In theseis works, presented at the gallery, Sushma uses colours, shapes and textures in the technique of creating monotypes, with acrylic additions, exploring different levels through the successive layering of acrylic s that will appear in a single impression. Such as old forgotten parchment, they reveal a quest through invisible territories revealing footprints, human or plant traces.

Parcours
Sushma studied interior design at Ecole Boulle in Paris where she first encountered the world of colour. In 1995, leaving the design company she helped start up, she embarked on a solitary quest lasting 5 years that would take her through 5 continents and lead her to choose to be an artist…
During her travels, she attended life drawing classes in India, while also sculpting with clay. But it was in Tunisia that she settled to learn various art techniques including clay modelling, ceramics, acrylic and oil painting, studying under several master painters and sculptors, and obtaining a diploma from the school of Mustapha Raith.
Choosing painting as a means to translate the images she had collected on her travels, she did her first solo exhibition in Sidi Bou Said in 2005. She has since had studios in Libya, France and Morocco selling her art through exhibitions…
Meanwhile, she was back in India several times as well as in Japan, to work with the Master Painter, Meera Hashimoto, using painting as a means of expression and self-exploration in art therapy. She has pursued this self exploration through writing, printing, improvisation theatre, while attending workshops in several countries to widen her skills.
Wanting to share the joy and the therapeutic value of art, she then studied art therapy and obtained a diploma in Art-Therapy from the Faculty of Medicine in Tours in 2013, then worked in an Alzheimer centre in France and with refugees in Iraq.
Sushma now lives in the Algarve, where she continues exploring the world of colours, through a mix of techniques and media.
