Stripped of its green leaves, all that remains of the forest is its bare skin.
I studied its colour carefully, saturated its tones. I discovered that its soil was red, its trunks orange, its shadows blue.
I tried to sketch the outline of its surface by rubbing a thin layer of paint onto the paper.
I deliberately left the paper white at the points of light, reduced the colour to a minimum and rendered everything with restrained gestures.
This painting was done in the studio in August 2023. It is a reworking of several studies done en plein air.
The work is painted in oil on rough paper, then applied on 100% linen canvas mounted on a fixed fir frame.
The signature is in the lower right corner.
The painting is protected with a layer of satin acrylic varnish.
The work comes with a thin fir frame, which deliberately shows the knots in the wood to better relate to the natural subject. It is ready to hang
The painting is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
"The colour of the forest" is a literal translation of the original Italian title "Il colore del bosco".

I started out as a portrait painter at a very young age, later shifting my interest to nature. I thus began an artistic journey in which the study of painting merged with the discovery of the world around me, making me discover beauty in every corner. I see nature as a mystery to be unravelled, and painting as the best tool to do so. I dream of being able to create works that, with essential brushstrokes, can tell the story of the nature I am experiencing at that moment, in its entirety. But my paintings are not just landscapes. They are compositions that tell stories, moods or situations transfigured in nature. I paint mainly en plein air, using oil colours. The setting of the work is classical, figurative, perspective. The choice of colours is post-impressionist, with pure colours, often juxtaposed, mixed directly on the canvas. The execution is quick and unhesitating, typically expressionist. There is no drawing, painting is drawing. I like to paint on paper and then transfer to canvas. As a separate discipline, I am also interested in portraiture, which I have always done, also on commission.
