Parab means festival. In Jharkhand, during the time of Diwali, there is a celebration of the ripening of paddy. And that paddy is the proverbial 'Goddess Laxmi' for the farmers, though the traditional festivities do not include any worshipping of Laxmi. Instead, animal sacrifice is done to invoke the ancestors. A traditional festival that is passed on, from one generation to next, with young ones especially drawn in by eager mothers. Some of the symbols etched out on walls are also found in cave paintings in the region. A typical 'rangoli' called jhoonti is made with rice flour mixed in sticky okra juice with each family having their own design.
