My artwork, "The sense of freedom," is a poignant representation of the transformative power of forgiveness. This piece embodies the liberating feeling of releasing the burdens of past mistakes and embracing the freedom of the present.


Personally, I've experienced the weight of self-doubt and the crippling effects of holding onto grudges. But as I learned to forgive myself and others, I discovered a sense of freedom that was previously elusive.


The artwork depicts a serene boy with eyes closed, breathing deeply, surrounded by a frame that symbolizes the barriers and stagnation that hold us back whenever we keep holding on to past mistakes. Yet, from this confinement, birds take flight, representing the liberation that comes with forgiveness.


This piece is a testament to the human capacity for resilience, forgiveness, and freedom. It reminds us that we have the power to release the shackles of our past and soar into a brighter, more hopeful future.

 : Samuel Oche Ujah (Also Known as Sammy Bernard, and by his art name as "SAMMIEsketch") is a visual artist based in Makurdi, Benue state. Born in February 4th, 2004. He is self taught, and developed an interest in art at a very early age. He started making artworks with pencil, with which he used in taking several commissions right from Secondary school. It was later in 2023, that he switched to the use of pen, which he found to be a great medium to communicate his artistic style. By education, He is a science student, and currently a student of Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi. Studying Biotechnology as a course.

*Artist Statement* : I believe that art can serve as a mirror, reflecting our society's values and habits, and my love for art is a driving force, allowing me to express the beauty and vulnerability that I see in the world. Through my art, I hope to inspire others to find solace, strength, and beauty in the midst of life's challenges.
