As an Ironman (Ironman Lanzarote 2017), Kona, Hawaii, means very much to me. This is my small abstract tribute to this goal of millions of people in the world, to participate in the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii. In this year 2018, 40 years will be commemorated since the first edition in 1978

As you can see in this work, Ruben´s style is marked by pure tonalities, well-marked strokes, it is intense, alive, full of energy. Self-taught painter, he is attentive to his intuition and strongly convinced that the best is yet to come. His inspiration might come from a sign that appeared whilst completing an Ironman, or from a logo found in a magazine that he read on a flight.

First, he uses a layer of bubble wrap to have a cushion from bumps and bruises and to prevent unwanted movement during travel. That layer is surrounded by a piece of corrugated cardboard as a protective shield and shock absorber for the sides and corners. Finally, the package is wrapped in plastic sheeting to prevent the entrance of dust or humidity.

Verf met traditionele pigmenten gemengd met synthetische harsen.

Glazuur

Verf gemaakt met gesmolten glaspoeder en oxide. De email wordt vervolgens aangebracht door ze te mengen met gedestilleerd water. Er is een vorm van verglaasbaar glazuur dat bestaat uit het mengen van de oxiden met zeer weinig glas en olie totdat een pasta is verkregen. Ze worden vervolgens toegepast als een schilderij.
