This sculpture depicts an insect, a beetle. It is made from tree bark, from cork oak, with different pieces joined together to form the body, legs, and tail. The bark has variations in brown and beige color, and shows the natural texture of tree bark. The pieces of bark appear to be joined together organically, almost as if the creature is growing [...]
This sculpture depicts an insect, a beetle. It is made from tree bark, from cork oak, with different pieces joined together to form the body, legs, and tail. The bark has variations in brown and beige color, and shows the natural texture of tree bark. The pieces of bark appear to be joined together organically, almost as if the creature is growing out of the bark itself.
The creature has a rounded, bulbous body, resembling a shell or tree trunk. Six uneven, gnarled legs branch out from its body, adding to the organic, rough look of the piece. A close-up would show the rough, scaly texture of the sculpture, the variation in color in different areas, and the way the various parts were put together to form the final form. The posture of the sculpture is relaxed and slightly bent.
It is a unique and quirky piece of art made from recycled organic materials. Its design and texture contribute to both a strange and captivating look.

Roberto Rivas is a painter, photographer and jewellery designer.

Roberto graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University (Madrid).

His postgraduate in Photography and Sculpture led him to fully explore three-dimensional composition, design, colour, and conceptualization of natural forms.

Seeking for new ways of art and expression, he continued to study a Degree in Jewellery Design and scored the highest mark.

He captures the foundations of art in his works translating the principles either with painting, sculpture, recycling or any other technique that can be transformed into art. He explore and opens the path to new ways of expression  playing with composition and space.
