His portraits from life include writers and artists August John,Patrick Swift,Samuel Beckett,Brendan Behan,G.Y.Dryansky and Jill Neville,(collection National Portrait Gallery, Australia),Miss Laura Parker Bowles, the prince of Brunei, actors Julitte Binoche, Gian Maria Volontè and Laurent Terzieff.and Britpop Musician Justine Frischmann.One of his rare street scenes, Kensington High St.1957.is in the collection of The Museum of London. He has created two bookcovers for the prominent Irish poet Derry O'Sullivan and portrayed the local Dublin poet Séan Brophy.The New York film director Kerry Franzman produced the film "Portrait of a Portrait Artist" on the life of Gray which was selected for the New York Film Festivel December 2001. In February 2002 Gray was elected an offical member of The American Society of Portrait Painters
